I wouldn't consider either way of dying rather painless. lethal injections induce heart attacks and sufficate your body from the inside out. some people have even had to go through hours of needle jabs to find a vein. whether or not they are innocent is not the point - but lethal injection certainly isn't painfree. I meant 'relatively' or 'usually' painfree if we have to get that literal. It just seems to me that the U.S. govt. offers it's criminal scum a more 'humane' way to go than wasting away for 13 days. I'm not a political person by any means, nor am I here to argue over little facts. I just find it heartbreaking that this woman had to die the way she did, it's awful.

Wow they found that she was blind!
"The finding that she was blind counters a widely seen videotape released by her parents of Terri Schiavo in her hospice bed. The video showed Schiavo appearing to turn toward her mother's voice and smile. She moaned and laughed. Her head moved up and down and she seemed to follow the progress of a brightly colored Mickey Mouse balloon.
The parents said the video that showed she was aware of her surroundings, but doctors said her reactions were automatic responses and not evidence of consciousness."

I hope this shuts up all the do-gooder whiners who wanted her to stay alive indefinitly. She was probably living a slow torture for all those years. I for one salute her husband for standing up for what Terry wanted. May she finnally rest in peace....

Granted I am not a parent yet so I don't know what it must be like for her parents to lose a child...but now that there is medical evidence and the best "proof" we have of how severe the damage was (which of course we couldn't have obtained until after her death) says it all...And for the parents to still be in denial I just cannot understand...If medical experts can identify when a person first learns of sarcasm and which part of the brain controls the understanding of sarcasm I'm sure they have done plenty of studies to find out which part of the brain handles eyesight...and if your brain is shrunk half the size of normal I think anyone could surmise that most "normal" functions are probably lost...
I just cannot believe that there is still fighting going on over this...fighting for 15 years for a woman who was unable to stop it...pictures being shown worldwide of a woman whom I'm sure does not want to be remembered at this woman lying in a bed (who didn't have significant eye contact with her loved ones)...The whole thing is just so sad and who knows when any of this will ever end?!?! They will be releasing photos of the autopsy, which will then stir up more "controversy" and there are people who are releasing books on her life and tragic end...people are going to PROFIT off of her...what's next? The movie of the week? Or better yet a blockbuster movie with some name actress who will then win an Oscar for her performance of Terri?
Ok now I'm getting heated...It just really bothers me...and of course I get it constantly on the news here being so close to Tampa...

The video showed Schiavo appearing to turn toward her mother's voice and smile. That video (and the photos) always bothered me because I knew it was a misrepresentation of her condition used to stir up emotions.... just like how people were hoodwinked about the need to invade Iraq. People were ignoring medical fact and felt that, by preserving her life, they were somehow saving their own souls. At least now, most of the facts are out and she can finally rest in peace.

its easy to speculate being perfectly (or fairly) healthy human beings with full use of all faculties, but to be in that position, how do we really know.
its the slippery slope i'm worried about. what's down the pike? kill the blind people? or the people missing a limb? or etc...

Well... no. We can't compare this to being blind or missing a limb. Terri Schiavo had no cerebral cortex - meaning there was no brain activity. This was established long before she had passed away and her autopsy only reasserted what was already known. Thanks to manipulative pro-life politics, people seem to be missing this point. It looks like this isn't over though. This was hot off the press this morning: _____________________________________ Probe Sought in Terri Schiavo 911 Call Fri Jun 16, 11:50AM ET news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=1&u=/ap/20050617/ap_on_re_us/governor_schiavo_3 By JACKIE HALLIFAX, Associated Press Writer
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday that a prosecutor has agreed to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago, citing an alleged gap in time from when her husband found her and called 911.
In a letter faxed to Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney Bernie McCabe, Bush said Michael Schiavo testified in a 1992 medical malpractice trial that he found his wife collapsed at 5 a.m. on Feb. 25, 1990, and he said in a 2003 television interview that he found her about 4:30 a.m. He called 911 at 5:40 a.m.
"Between 40 and 70 minutes elapsed before the call was made, and I am aware of no explanation for the delay," Bush wrote. "In light of this new information, I urge you to take a fresh look at this case without any preconceptions as to the outcome."
McCabe was out of state Friday and couldn't immediately be reached for comment, but Bush said McCabe has agreed to his request.
Michael Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment from The Associated Press. But on Wednesday he said his client didn't wait to call for help. He said his client has conceded that he confuses dates and times.
Felos has said that if Michael Schiavo had not called 911 immediately, as Bush and others allege, Terri Schiavo would have died that day.
"There is no hour gap or other gap to the point Michael heard Terri fall and called 911," Felos said. "We've seen the baseless allegations in this case fall by the wayside one by one ... That's what I would call it, a baseless claim to perpetuate a controversy that in fact doesn't exist."
Terri Schiavo died March 31 from dehydration after her feeding tube was disconnected at her husband's request, despite unsuccessful efforts by her parents, Bush and others to keep her alive.
An autopsy released Wednesday concluded that she had been in a persistent vegetative state and revealed no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused before she collapsed.
It left unanswered the question of why Terri Schiavo's heart stopped, cutting oxygen off from her brain. The autopsy showed she suffered irreversible brain damage and her brain had shrunk to half the normal size for her age.
Bush's request was immediately criticized by some lawmakers.
"Enough is enough," said Democratic Sen. Ron Klein. "I don't want to see it on TV any more, I don't want to hear politicians talk about it. Let her be at peace."
Bush acknowledged in his letter that an investigation may be difficult.
"I understand that these events took place many years ago, and that you may not be able to collect all the relevant records and physical evidence. However, Mrs. Schiavo's family deserves to know anything that can be done to determine the cause and circumstances of her collapse 15 years ago," Bush wrote. "The unanswered questions may be unanswerable, but the attempt should be made." ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
They had over 7 years to launch this inquiry. Why now?

to look at this case in a vacuum, your point makes perfect sense neal. but this case didn't happen in a vacuum. politics and the media did get involved, which generally means all rationale is tossed aside for ratings and reelection. sad but true.
but if my life were ever to hang in the balance as a result of porkbelly politics, created by people who were unable to see the forest for the trees, God help us all. ..

I like that term "porkbelly politics". I suppose another thing that Terri might have taught us in her passing was that we (the public) need to take a more pragmatic approach to interpreting the media and try not to fall for smoke & mirror semantics that provoke the worst in our personal ideologies. Like I pointed out earlier in the thread, while all these people were holding their dramatic vigils for Terri Schiavo, a child in Texas had the plugged pulled - thanks to legislation by the very man who intervened on the Schindler's behalf in this contraversy. There should be a link to an article a few posts back. Getting back to this inquiry on the original 911 call: If they had done this before she died and somehow managed to find some sort of negligence on the husband's part that led to her being ill, they might've had a case to usurp his guardianship of Terri. Then the parents could've kept her alive for all eternally if they wanted. This looks like nothing more than a pathetic attempt at "payback" - like government sponsored racketeering. I think I spoke to soon when I said that Terri could finally rest in peace. PS: By the way dot... I'm picking up a Yamaha board. There more info on our thread back on my board.
